Special
Awards
Firstly, I would like to thank the committee of
the SEWSSC for inviting me to judge their Special classes, and the exhibitors
for their entries and sporting acceptance of my decisions. I feel honoured to
have had the opportunity to have judged both a high quality and numerically
strong entry. I was spoilt for choice in all three classes.
Special
Junior – 9 - A
lovely class full of a mix of puppies and youngsters at varying stages of
maturity.
1st
– Woodward’s Hinxwood Fire and Ice.
A balanced young lady of 12 months. Liked her
overall bone and substance yet she retains femininity throughout. She has a
pretty head with a cheeky expression in her eye. Her long, muscular neck flows
into well placed shoulders. She has deep well sprung ribs of good length, good
width all through, and correct top line. Her correct hind angulation, good
muscle tone and well let down hocks enabled her to
drive confidently around the ring with ease.
2nd
– Smith’s Isfryn Peeping Tom
To be honest this young man of 9 months
surprised me, strong, merry and active is all there. Whilst I would prefer a
touch more length of body, when he settles into himself he does present a
balanced picture. His head is masculine yet without coarseness and his expression
is kind yet alert. He has a good length of neck, well laid-back shoulders and
such big deep ribs for his age. He has good body throughout; his stifles are
moderately angled and his quarters are so well-muscled for one so young.
Erratic to start, once he settled down he moved soundly around the ring with
drive.
3rd
Hankin’s Haltonian Juliet
with Woodelrond
Special
Post Graduate – 12 - A strong class of
varying types where I wished I had more place cards.
1st
Brown’s Bowdonia Ozzie
My notes start with as sound as a lb! This
young man won this class on his overall soundness and powerful driving
movement. At just 3 year of age he is maturing well and now starting to fill
out his frame. He has a balanced masculine head with chiselling below the eyes.
Look past his markings and you can see and feel his long muscular neck which is
set into well placed sloping shoulders. He has big deep ribs, strong loin and
good top line. He has wide, correctly angulated quarters with deep,
well-muscled second thigh, and he powered around the ring on neat feet, moving
true fore and aft.
2nd
Tew’s Pamicks Field of
Dreams JW
Loved this young lady for her overall balance
and breed type, and I thought her to be my class winner, however her in her
enthusiasm she did on occasion have a tendency to throw herself about on the
move, nevertheless could not deny her 2nd place in this lovely
class. Such a pretty bitch she has a lovely head and expression. For me she
excels in front construction with a long neck leading into well placed
shoulders. She has well sprung deep ribs of good length. She stands on well
boned legs and neat feet, and has good body, width and top line. Her
hindquarters are well-muscled and powerful which she used to drive around the
ring.
3rd
Woodham’s Glynell Jiffy
Special
Open – 9 (1) – Another
strong class.
Two super dogs headed this class both of which
screamed Welsh Springer and I am sure will change places on many occasions.
Both had excellent bone and substance, lovely heads and expressions, super
necks and shoulders, big deep ribs, depth and width all through, and strong
well-muscled quarters which they used to power around the ring – with both
showing plenty of push and drive. A close decision between the two, 1 won this
class on his overall balance and sound true movement - for me he did not put a
foot wrong, where as 2’s head was just not in the
game and therefore on occasion was a tad erratic coming and going.
